Brand Identity, Digital, Environmental
"La cuisine de vos voyages", this is how Camille & Thibaut the owners of Bukit, define their new concept for the restaurant they have opened. Bukit is a Bar-cantine that celebrates the kitchens of the world in a simple and healthy way.
Bukit is located in the south west of France where the heart of the Basque culture lies. Set up in the historical part of Bayonne, the capital of the Basque Country. Their menu combine Basque's regional spicey products and dishes inspired by Indonesia (the name came from the Bukit peninsula in Bali). Beyond a simple restaurant the cantine is a challenging project that bridges these two cultures. Others flavours from Vietnam, Japan and Hawaii are reinterpreted in an original way.
The owners commissioned Norma Design to create a complete new visual identity befitting the cuisine they serve. The design programme involved brand identity, environmental graphics and digital communication. The inspiration of the identity refers to the couple travels; colours, symbol & graphics are a wink to the Bukit peninsula. Moreover the typewriter font "Pitch"(designed by Klim Type Foundry) was the starting point for the identity.
Since the opening, the Bar-cantine has received positive critics from the locals & good reviews on the quality of its food and atmosphere. The place is now a regular haunt for locals and perfectly integrated in the historical centre.

The symbol is one of the main element of the identity. It integrates the values of the restaurant and helps to remember the name and its origin. In the communication it become a playful mark allowing endless pattern variations. The visual identity combines clarity and modern aesthetic even if the typeface refers to the 'air mail' first inspiration.
