Brand identity release

Bukit, the cantine that bridges two cultures

"La cuisine de vos voyages", this is how Camille & Thibaut the owners of Bukit, define their new concept for the restaurant they have opened. Bukit is a Bar-cantine that celebrates the kitchens of the world in a simple and healthy way.

Bukit is located in the south west of France where the heart of the Basque culture lies. Set up in the historical part of Bayonne – the capital of the Basque country – the Cantine is a challenging project that bridges these two cultures. But their menu has also been inspired by the flavours of Bali, Vietnam, Japan and Hawaii.

The owners commissioned Nōrma Design to create a complete new visual identity befitting the cuisine they serve. The design programme involved brand identity, environmental graphics and digital communication.

Thoughts

The role of a designer

"I think every designer must have a sensibility of the beautiful. A sense of aesthetic. A designer must avoid waste and keep in mind that design should be timeless and not following any trends.

Design is a matter of listening more than talking. Designers must guide their clients like doctors treat their patients. A designer understand the need and his solution is pragmatic. He solves his client's problem with sensibility and functionality.

Design is a public form, design should be easy to understand and more accessible in everyday life. Designers must talk to the public more, to inform them about their profession and open the discussion to others."

Thibaud Sabathier, founder of Norma Design

Graphic posters

Nouveau Millésime

A series of posters celebrating Bordeaux tradition of wines. In a modern way this series of posters approaches the classic French patrimoine with a strong typographic voice.

The posters reveal wonderful details on close up. Images are rendered in bitmap (or raster) to produce this incredibly effect. Bitmap images are stored as a series of tiny dots called pixels, each of them containing colour value.
